Odegaard comments on Carlo Ancelotti reappointment

Martin Odegaard has commented on Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as a new head coach of Real Madrid amid growing interest from Arsenal to keep him permanently.

Odegaard left Real Madrid to link up with Arsenal on a six-month loan last January and has since excelled in the Premier League. The prodigious playmaker was one of Mikel Arteta’s most trusted allies during the second half of the 2020/21 season, with his playing style reminiscent of Mesut Ozil.

Known for his impressive playmaking skills, exceptional vision, and pinpoint passing, Odegaard is Ozil’s clone in a true Football-Manager fashion. Therefore, the Gunners are desperate to keep Norway international permanently but have been quoted a figure of over €50million.

Real Madrid are understood to be keen on integrating the 22-year-old into their first-team squad starting next season. However, Zinedine Zidane’s departure has left the club’s ambitions open to interpretation, which puts Odegaard’s long-term future into the corridor of doubt.

Ancelotti, who was at the helm in the Norwegian’s early years in the Spanish capital, has taken over the charge and will have to decide whether to keep Odegaard next season or send him on another loan.

According to various reports, Ancelotti considers the talented youngster as an immediate upgrade on his current options and is looking to give him a prominent role next year.

Odegaard, meanwhile, has fond memories of his previous collaboration with the Italian tactician.

“He is a coach I know and with whom I had a good relationship when he was last there,” he told TV 2 Sporten.

“In that sense, it is positive. But beyond that, one day has passed, so I do not know too much about what he thinks about things.”
