Bayern Munich prodigy Jamal Musiala has decided to play for Germany at the expanse of England.
Musiala carries a reputation as one of the hottest up-and-coming prospects in European football. A graduate of Chelsea’s youth academy, the 17-year-old forward joined Bayern Munich in 2019 and has since become one of the most highly-appreciated teenagers in the world of football. After coming through the ranks at the Allianz Arena, the youngster made his senior debut for the perennial German champions against Freiburg on 20 June 2020. It made him the youngest-ever player to feature for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
It didn’t take long for Musiala to make his senior breakthrough, opening his scoring account in Bayern’s 8-0 thumping of Schalke 04 on 18 September 2020. Everything has gone smooth for the prodigious forward since, as he already has 16 Bundesliga appearances to his name this season. Musiala also got on the scoresheet in the UEFA Champions League, finding the net in his team’s 4-1 away win at Lazio in the round of 16. After soaking up the limelight as one of Europe’s finest talents, the whizz-kid faced an agonizing dilemma concerning his national team choosing.
Born in Stuttgart to a German mother and a British-Nigerian father and subsequently raised in England, Musiala has represented both countries at the youth level. However, the time has come for him to decide whether he wants to play for his native country or the land he spent his entire childhood in. And Musiala has made his pick.
“I’ve thought about this question a lot. What is best for my future? Where do I have more chances to play?” he said, as relayed by Sports Mole.
“In the end, I just listened to the feeling that over a long period of time kept telling me that it was the right decision to play for Germany, the land I was born in. Still, it wasn’t an easy decision for me.
“I have a heart for Germany and a heart for England. Both hearts will keep on beating.”
